This park, known for its lush valleys on the west side of the Continental Divide and its dramatic, exposed peaks to the east, could take lifetimes to explore.

It's hard to get cabin fever in the Flathead Valley. Most activities this time of year revolve around the beautiful weather near Glacier National Park.

OUTSIDE

In Kalispell, you're perfectly positioned to access the region's two ski areas, Whitefish Mountain Resort and Blacktail Mountain Ski Area. Whitefish, sitting at the head of the valley, offers 3,000 skiable acres and has been named among Ski Magazine's top 10 ski resorts. Blacktail, with a family-friendly vibe, overlooks Flathead Lake. Both ski areas peek above the clouds on magical inversion days, where morning fog lays low and mountaintops rise toward the sun.

Nordic skiing & snowshoeing

There are also nordic skiing centers like Round Meadows, Bigfork Nordic Center, or the Blacktail Nordic ski trails. You may snowshoe on thousands of wilderness trail miles, including in Glacier National Park. In winter, the park is quiet, still, and otherworldly. Snowmobilers can find thrills on more than 200 miles of trails, as well as Forest Service roads.

Shopping and enjoying life

For those who would rather stay inside, the same galleries, boutiques, museums, and restaurants in downtown Kalispell offer another world to explore. And despite colder temperatures, local communities still love to gather together during events like the Whitefish Winter Carnival and Martin City's Cabin Fever Days.
